Trauma-focused Therapy
Specialised trauma therapy for adults navigating the impact of trauma and adversity. A safe space to explore past experiences using evidence-based approaches tailored to individual needs.
Patricia Torres Arauz
I am a clinical psychologist specialising in trauma-focused therapy, including EMDR and parts/schema work. My approach is grounded in compassion, safety, and evidence-based care tailored to individual needs.
I work with adults experiencing complex trauma, anxiety, depression, dissociation, and long-standing patterns that can feel difficult to understand or change.
Therapy offers a space to make sense of your experiences, reduce overwhelm, and build greater stability, clarity, and meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.

Common Questions
Feel free to get in touch if there's anything else you'd like to know.
Simply get in touch via phone or the contact form below. I'll have a brief chat with you to understand your needs and book your first session. If you'd like to use Medicare rebates, please ask your GP for a Mental Health Care Plan and referral before your first appointment.
A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is prepared by your GP and allows you to access Medicare rebates for psychological sessions. You can receive up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year. Speak with your GP about getting a plan and referral.
I do offer face to face sessions in Cairns City and also online telehealth sessions. This allows for flexible scheduling; making it easier to fit therapy into your life no matter where you are in Australia.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy originally developed for trauma and PTSD. It helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer cause the same level of disturbance.
The length of therapy varies depending on your unique needs and goals. Some people find meaningful improvement in 6-12 sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. I'll regularly review your progress with you and adjust the plan as needed.
Yes, everything discussed in sessions is confidential. As a registered psychologist, I adhere to strict ethical guidelines and privacy laws. There are limited exceptions where I may be legally required to share information, such as if there is a risk of harm — I will always discuss these boundaries with you.
Individual sessions are $250 for 50-60 minutes. With a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, you can receive a Medicare rebate — bringing down the out-of-pocket cost.
Many private health funds offer rebates for clinical psychology sessions. Check with your insurer about your level of cover. I work with a range of health funds. You cannot claim both Medicare and private health for the same session.
Yes — I accept eligible clients accessing psychological services through NDIS (self-managed or plan-managed) and WorkCover. If you are unsure whether your funding applies, please reach out to discuss your individual circumstances.
